Galaxie Rising Stars Program of the CBC
A Canadian music development program, offering two $2,000 awards
Galaxie, the Continuous Music Network, is committed to putting Canadian musicians on the map! As experts, the Galaxie team knows that some of the greatest talent is found in our own backyard. That's why Rising Stars, an original program designed to champion up-and-coming Canadian artists, was created. Launched in 1998, this program set out to discover, encourage and promote new artists. To that end, Galaxie partnered with MusicFest Canada to offer cash awards and provide showcase opportunities.
With their unique approach, Galaxie is furthering their CRTC mandate to assist in the development of music in Canada. "New artists need exposure to break into the marketplace," says Jean-Richard Lefebvre, who conceived of the Galaxie Rising Stars Program of the CBC. "We consider our responsibility to foster new talent as more of a mission than an obligation."
In 2002, MusicFest Canada was honoured to welcome Galaxie's sponsorship of this new award. Presented to two individuals, each award is worth $2,000.
